Dating to 1400 A.D., the sacred ground remains a memorial to the prehistoric people of the Paleo, Archaic, Woodland and Mississippian cultures. A replica temple stands atop the mound, adjacent to a museum that houses artifacts from European and colonial explorations and chronicles the history and development of the Fort Walton Beach area.
