The Destin Harbor Gets a Facelift!

After 15 years of debate, planning, voting, un-planning, replanning and finally construction; Destin has a unified harbor boardwalk. The boardwalk stretches nearly one half mile along Destin's famous fishing wharf, from the HarborWalk Village down to the former location of the "Electric Cowboy".

Improvements to the walkway include wider walkways, enhanced lighting and uniform furnishings. The $2.45 million renovation is intended to encourage pedestrian traffic all along the harbor and not just around the Harborwalk Village.

The enhanced lighting will not only serve to illuminate our beautiful harbor at night, but also make the new boardwalk a safe destination for locals and visitors. The wider walkways will invite people to continue down the pathway, eliminating the notion of there being an “end” to the harbor.

Where there was once decaying wood, asphalt, or even dirt and grass, there is now 200,000-board feet of natural Southern Pine, beautiful lights, park benches and wooden trellises. The new Destin Boardwalk will host its debut event October 5th – 7th, 2012 with the 34th annual Destin Seafood Festival.
