The 5th Annual Smoke on the Coast BBQ and Fireworks Festival will be held at the Destin Commons on Friday, July 3rd, 2015. A start to the 4th of July holiday weekend, this annual festival will begin at 2:00pm and end at 9:30pm. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the following charities: Building Homes for Heroes, Children in Crisis and Food for Thought.
Twenty area restaurants and BBQ enthusiasts will prepare over lighted grills specialty dishes on site. This event features a BBQ competition with all participating chefs competing for the “People’s Choice Award.” New to this year’s competition is a panel of three distinguished judges who will also determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the “Judge’s Pick Award.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to taste BBQ from all vendors for a dollar per sample beginning at 5pm. Participants can then vote for their favorite dish and choose the winner of the “People’s Choice Award”. Four time reigning champions ValleyCrest will be there to try and defend their title. However, this could be the year for a new ‘Number One’ barbecue chef.
Along with tastings, the event will feature activities for kids and adults. Street performers as well as live music will entertain all throughout the evening. Heritage, a local Reggae Pop band, will perform on the main stage in the center of the expansion area at the Destin Commons. The evening will conclude at 9:15pm with a fireworks display along with patriotic music over the skyline of Destin Commons.
Destin Commons is located at the corner of US Highway 98 and the Mid Bay Bridge Road, convenient to Destin condos. Destin Commons features over 70 stores and restaurants as well as a full calendar of events throughout the year including the Annual Smoke on the Coast BBQ and Fireworks Festival.
